B. Refuge is a SSMU club of McGill University that began in 2009 with the idea of creating a community that would facilitate both language and culture exchanges between asylum claimants new to Montreal and students from Canada and other regions, and ease their transition to living in a new and unfamiliar place. Our organization is under the umbrella of QPIRG’s working groups. We also aim to increases education and awareness for students about refugees and asylum claimants in Canada. B. Refuge has worked closely with Montreal City Mission since its inception to provide student trainings and workshops and they have been our main contact with the refugee community. For this coming year, the focus of the program will be organizing small groups or pairs of participants to become involved in a volunteer activity from October to April. Other activities will include film screenings and campus outreach, weekly club meetings, and group events around Montreal.
